The beginning of 2025

The beginning of 2025 has been an enlightening time for me. I quit my job in September of 2024 and as I’ve entered the new year I’ve had some time to reflect on who I am, what I do, and what I want to do. The overwhelming lesson I’ve taken away from this time is to simply do. We all have dreams, ideas, and thinks we want to do. Keep working on things I know I enjoy and enjoy them in the moment. Doechii’s song BLOOM puts it well.
There's the past, present, and future
You gotta put pieces in places
It's 24 hours
You take part of those hours, you do what you can do
And you go to bed
I have started actively volunteering for Movement, an organization that advocates for better transit across Metro Vancouver. This includes things like canvassing at bus stations which is definitely outside of my comfort zone but it feels good to work for an important cause and I believe it’s developing really valuable skills for myself. The major campaign we are currently working on is savethebus.
I have made decent progress on building my first mobile app, for Cronicle. Cronicle is an app I built for myself about a year ago to encourage me to document my life and value each week I have. A mobile app will be available soon!
I have consistently posted on the Bard Youtube channel two times a week since the beginning of the year. Marketing the platforms I’ve built has always been a struggle for me. However, my goal now is to simply stay consistent. Some of my videos are not great but the consistency allows for the opportunity to improve on my recording and speaking skills. I’ve also paid for a few Youtube channels to talk about Bard and that has brought some big influxes of users. The next big thing I’m working on is the collection and worldbuilding release!
I start my woodworking residency this week! This Thursday I will be starting my woodworking residency which is a two month program in which I learn a bunch of tools, build a side table, and eventually build my own furniture.
I actively started looking for work as an independent software developer. I’ve had some success. I’m starting a small piece of work this week and I’ve signed contracts with a number of agencies so that I’m on their roster of developers. I’m hoping for a big year and a lot of learning as an independent developer.
If you’re in Canada or the US (or anywhere) things may be feeling uncertain right now. Keep expressing yourself, make art, and get involved in your local community. If more of us get involved in our local community across the world, only good things can come from that.
